Christina A. Gabrillo

Dr. Christina A. Gabrillo is a professor, Visayas State University (VSU), Baybay City, Leyte, Philippines with more than three decades of teaching experience in the field of development communication (DevCom) under the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Science. She obtained her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in DevCom at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) with cognate in Environmental Science.

Dr. Gabrillo co-authored articles in referred journals related to access and use of ICT-mediated rice technologies and perceived benefits from rice ICTs among farmers and agricultural extension, farmers’ perceived outcomes from participating in the radio SOA on organic agriculture, improving information flow on tree farming policies on private land through the school on the air, among others.

She served as head of the VSU-DevCom department for 10 years, station manager of university owned DYDC-FM for 14 years up until the present and designated as Dean of Students in 2024 and Director for Student Affairs and Services since January of 2025.

Dr. Gabrillo’s leadership journey led her to join the Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP) of the East-West Center (EWC) in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2019. It was a five-month cross-country training which brought her to India, California and Hawaii, USA.

As Project Leader, Dr. Gabrillo implemented the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) component of the VSU-Yolanda Recovery and Rehabilitation Program (YRRP) funded by the Department of Agriculture, Regional Office 8 with PhP2.4Million pesos and served as Editor of Tikad coffee table book, techno guides such as leaflets and brochures on vegetables, poultry/swine, rainforestation farming, farm business school https://www.vsu.edu.ph/articles/news/1929-tikad-vsu-journey-in-rehabilitating-agriculture-after-typhoon-yolanda.
