Saheeda Mujaffar

Dr. Saheeda Mujaffar is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Saint Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago. She holds a BSc. Degree in Natural Sciences and an MPhil. and PhD. Degree in Agricultural Engineering from the University of the West Indies.

Teaching and Research: Dr. Mujaffar has been actively involved in both teaching and research at the postgraduate level since December 2010. MSc courses in the Food Science and Technology Programme include Food Process Engineering, Food Quality Assurance and Quality Management, Food Packaging and Food Processing Laboratories. Her areas of research include Processing and Preservation of Agricultural Commodities, Food Waste Recovery and Utilization, Food Analysis and Product Development. To date she has supervised 2 PhD and over 40 MSc graduates and has published 29 peer reviewed publications in academic journals and refereed conference proceedings. She is an active Reviewer for local and international journals in the field of Food Science and Technology.

Administrative: Dr. Mujaffar served as the Coordinator of the Food Science and Technology Programme over the period 2017-2019 and as Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Engineering (Outreach and Enterprise Development for two and a half years (2016-2019). She served a two-year term as the Faculty of Engineering Representative on the UWI Administrative, Technical and Support Staff (ATSS) Committee and as a member of the Executive of West Indies Group of University Teachers (WIGUT) for one term (Dec 2023-2024).

Work Experience: Dr. Mujaffar worked as a Food Technologist in the food industry in the areas of Product and Process Development, Training of Micro, Small and Medium Agro-Industry Enterprises, Equipment Selection, Documentation Control and Plant and Equipment Upgrade.

National Service: Dr. Mujaffar served as a Director on the Board of Management of the Caribbean Industrial Research Institute (CARIRI) for three years (2020-2023) and previously served for four years as a Director on the Livestock and Livestock Products Board of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for (Jun 2011 - Aug 2015).
