David Oscar YAWSON

Dr David O. Yawson is a Professor of Agri-food Systems and Environmental Resilience and the Director of the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES) at The University of the West Indies (Cave Hill Campus). He has academic background in agriculture and environmental geography. His research integrates agronomic and environmental management tools, as well as soft approaches to efficient and effective use of water, land, and nutrients to strengthen resilience in agri-food systems and human-environment interactions in a changing climate.

Professor Yawson has published widely in reputable regional and international journals, on subjects ranging from food security, soil water and nutrient use by crop plants, resource circulation via food commodity trade, soil and water pollution, and the application of geospatial technologies to agro-environmental problems. He has published original analytical frameworks and methodologies for evaluating agricultural and environmental resilience problems.

He is the recipient of the 2022/2023 Principal’s Award for Excellence (Research and Publication category) at the Cave Hill Campus, and the 2016/2017 Best Evolved Researcher Award (University of Cape Coast, Ghana). He is an editorial board member of the journal Agriculture (MDPI) and Associate Editor for the International Journal of Climate Change Strategies and Management (Emerald Publishing). He has taught several courses in soil and water management in agriculture, geographic information systems and remote sensing in several departments in universities in Ghana, UK, Algeria and the Caribbean. He has worked on development projects in agriculture and environment in partnership with development agencies such as the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
