Damyan Kirechev

Damyan Kirechev is a Chief Assistant Professor and PhD in Economics at the University of Economics - Varna, Bulgaria, Department of Agricultural Economics. He holds a master's degree in Agricultural Economics and Finance. In 2014, he obtained a PhD in Agricultural Economics and Management. His academic career includes almost 30 years of teaching experience at the University of Economics - Varna. His research interests are in the following areas: economic relations in agriculture; sustainable development of agribusiness; agroecological practices in agribusiness; agri-food chain management; food safety management; agricultural financing; risk management in agriculture; rural development, etc.

In 2020-2023, he is leading a research project entitled "Contemporary approaches to sustainable agri-food chain management in Bulgaria". In 2024-2025, he is participating in an international project of EIT Food (EIT Food HUB Bulgaria), aimed at improving the food system and raising awareness among young people in Bulgaria about nutrition and adopting sustainable practices for food production and consumption. He consults and advises on projects related to entrepreneurship in the agri-food sector, the circular economy, and agribusiness.

Damyan Kirechev participates in national and international research projects focused on land relations, rural development, the development of the circular economy and bioeconomy in Bulgaria, risk management in agriculture, sustainable management of the agro-industrial chain, etc. He has over 100 publications in national and international journals, including in agricultural economics and the food sector, agroecological practices, and improving the food system's sustainability.
