Emma Sarahi Navarro Roque

I come from a family of farmers and have witnessed firsthand the challenges producers face in the face of a changing climate, along with a lack of support, access to resources, and adverse conditions. The migration of young people to cities, resource scarcity, and economic vulnerability are realities that require comprehensive and sustainable strategies. Therefore, I have worked on initiatives to strengthen the resilience of small-scale producers, developing business plans with a sustainable approach and promoting inclusive policies that not only mitigate the effects of climate change but also generate employment and opportunities for women and youth. My professional vision is to transform production systems toward models that integrate environmental sustainability, economic development, and social equity.

I also have experience in applied research on sustainable rural development, food security, and the empowerment of women in rural communities. My publications include temperature and precipitation mapping for alternative forages in southern Honduras, analysis of the psychosocial factors that influence rural women's involvement in community-based entrepreneurship, and assessments of the challenges facing achieving sustainability in the country's food system. I have also researched the impact of food waste on food security and the environment. I have also spoken at academic events, presenting research addressing technological and sustainable solutions for the agricultural sector. I am also a member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD).
