Global Food Systems & SDGs Report 2025

This report was inspired by the message of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the Fourth World Shiology Forum, as well as by the collective commitment of all UN Member States to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Building on this momentum, the report provides both a comprehensive study and a practical tool to support countries in addressing food-system challenges and advancing their SDG agendas.

The report follows a triennial cycle, with a single theme guiding each three year period; the current cycle is 2025–2027: A Systematic Stocktake of Food-System Issues and Solutions. Across this cycle, the work proceeds in three annual stages: in 2025 we establish the food-system issue framework, position the 193 UN Member States plus 2 observer states (“193+2”), and deliver preliminary issue–country and issue– solution mappings; in 2026 we deepen these correspondences and launch the Global Food Systems Sustainable Development Index for the 193+2 to enable cross-country comparison, trend tracking, and tiered governance guidance; in 2027 we propose 2050 goals, group countries by relevant natural and economic contexts, and outline action pathways linking national trajectories to global objectives.
