Pasona Organizes SDG, Food Forum

This event had three themes: “food”, “health”, and “regional revitalization”.

Pasona group and Easteat Culture Industry group organized the Sustainable Development and Food Forum (SDGs) for contributing to the realization of a globally prospering sustainable society.

On the occasion of the 2019 G20 Osaka Summit, both companies joined forces to hold the “1st World’s King of Chefs Summit, and the 9th Culinary Artists International Competition” as a supporting program from June 23th to June 26th in Awaji Island, Hyogo Prefecture.

This event had three themes: “food”, “health”, and “regional revitalization”.

Sessions of SDGs Forum discussed on its first day four main themes: What should we do to protect human beings? Also, what actions should be taken to address climate change issue, innovation on the food industry, and underwater life and on earth?

In addition, the forum discussed the methods to prepare meals utilizing valuable wild animals and plants” and reducing the number of chemical additives in natural and healthy dishes. This, in addition to creating a sustainable food system, compiling and publishing a specialty book on food, and finally holding the “Culinary Artists International Competition”.

At the “World’s King of Chefs Summit”, chefs and food experts representing the 20 countries participating in the 2019 G20 Osaka Summit gathered to participate to a 3 parts event: the “World’s King of Chefs Cooking Competition”, the “Eatology Forum”, and the “G20 Chef Gala Dinner”.

Throughout the “World’s King of Chefs Cooking Competition”, Mr. Zhenxiang Dong, the CEO of BEIJING DA DONG ROAST DUCK RESTAURANT, as well as the CEO and Principal of the school corporation Hattori Nutrition College, Mr. Yukio Hattori, were invited to act as the Chairmen of the Jury.

While Chefs from 20 countries compete in a contest, they will also be sharing their knowledge and experience with food and their culture in order to deepen their understanding of other countries.

A group of top chefs in the G-20 countries made two rounds: the first was in the fish market, they ate a meal of it, and the second was in one of the alcohol production plants, to know its production.

The tour also included group photo shoots and preparations for the Global Food Cooking Contest, which will be held today on the sidelines of the summit in an Asian restaurant and will be open to the public.

Through this “1st World’s King of Chefs Summit, and 9th Culinary Artists International Competition”, proposing a healthy society by means of “food”, “health”, and “regional revitalization”, Pasona Group hopes to contribute to the promotion of the local economy and the development of Awaji Island by sharing this location and its charming surroundings.

Yasuyuki Nampo, the representative of the Basuna Group, said: “We hope that the products of the island of Awaji are better known and help strengthen the local economy.”

Amid the “Eatology Forum”, food experts gathered from all over the world in order to deliberate upon topics such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the eradication of poverty and hunger, the sustainable consumption and production, the conservation of oceans and land resources, and other discussions related to gastronomy.

Furthermore, the “Awaji Island Declaration”, a declaration designed to kick off the process towards a self-sustainable society.

The forum was attended by food experts and professors from around the world to discuss issues of poverty, hunger and the preservation of oceans and natural resources.
